MIRZA RAFI SAUDA


Mirza Muhammad Rafi Sauda ( 1713-1781) ( Urdu: مرزا محمد رفيع سودا) was one of the best known poets of Urdu language in Delhi, India. He is known for his Ghazals and Urdu Qasidas. His birth year has not been confirmed and in some publications, it is listed as 1712. Suleman Kuli Khan was his first Ustad ( teacher of Urdu poetry) and second time he chose Shah Hatim, who was a very famous Shayar (Urdu poet) of his time. King Shah Alam was Shagird ( student of zurdu poetry) of "Sauda". At the age of sixty, he lft Delhi and came to Farrukhabad and then to Faizabad. When Lucknow became state capital, he came here with Nawab Shujauddaulah. He was also Ustad os Shujauddaulah. He got priza of Malikushu'ara and the prize money was Rupees Sixty Thousand.
